About Artist Lorraine Pichugin

“I wanted to paint a picture that people would stand before and forget that it is made of paint….”

 O. Henry (The Purple Dress).

A professional member of the International Guild of Realism, and having an intuitive approach to recording the world around her since a child, for multi award winning artist Lorraine Pichugin, pencils and paper have always been close by. After settling in Perth, Western Australia nearly twenty years ago, and spending time studying Fine Art & Visual Culture at Curtin University, Lorraine’s passion to paint was ignited.

The decision to follow her heart and become a fulltime artist has resulted in a number of First Prize awards in local and international competitions.  Lorraine has a passion to share her love for painting and drawing, engaging in teaching well attended workshops. She has participated in Artist Residencies and loves inspiring others through her work. A much-desired goal was achieved with the holding of her first very successful first solo show in 2022.

Lorraine Pichugin’s work appears initially about capturing still life objects. It is only when one pauses to take a closer look with a deeper level engagement that Lorraine’s real focus begins to reveal itself to the viewer. The familiarity of the still life prop fades in significance as the diffused light begins to glow and the shadows take shape. The narrative becomes clear. Shadows.

Currently working towards her third solo show planned for 2027, Lorraine continually draws inspiration from her recurring theme of Light and Shadow. With her love for the old masters works bringing inspiration to take her art beyond being merely decorative, Lorraine’s masterful strokes create a story and a mood that ultimately resonates deeply with her viewers. For Lorraine, this is what being an artist is all about, that connection between the creator and the audience, with her artwork being the link.

Lorraine’s works are highly appreciated and are held in private collections nationally, and internationally.
